EBTKS Challenge #16- Nail Polish

So did you hear the news?.... DeNami Design is sponsoring the latest challenge over at the Everything But the Kitchen Sink blog. This month, the challenge is to create a project using Nail Polish!... What a unique idea, huh?.... Well, I'll be honest, at first I was pretty stumped on coming up with an idea for this challenge. In fact, my original idea didn't quite turn out as pretty in person as it had looked in my head. So I didn't end up using it. But then, I finally came up with this......

First, I took a piece of cardstock and folded it in half, then unfolded it, so that I was left with a crease in the middle. Then I poured a few drops of nail polish from various colors on to one side of the cardstock. I then folded the cardstock in half again, which allowed the nail polish to spread out and also create a mirror image on the other side.

 

I repeated the first step a few more times, adding more and more drops of polish in different sizes, until I covered the paper with an amount that I was satisfied with. I have to admit, I seriously felt like I was back in kindergarden again! haha... =)

Once the paper was aqequately covered, I set it aside to dry. This step is very important! I actually left it out to dry over-night, so that I would be sure that I wouldn't have any problems with wet nail polish getting on any of my stamps. But once it was dry, I took the Fancy Butterfly from DeNami Design, and stamped it several times across the page. I rotated the image a few times, while I stamped, in order to get coverage of all the colors on the page. 

Once  I was done stamping, I then cut out the butterflies, in order to adhere them onto my card base.

And here's my final result........

Sooo... What do ya think?.... Not too bad, huh?..... During the time that I was creating this, I had no idea of what the finished product was going to look like at all. So I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't turn out as bad as I thought. I actually wouldn't mind doing something like this again. It definitely brought back memories of my "finger painting" days and "arts & crafts" from when I was younger! haha.... But I sure had a lot of fun with this challenge, and I definitely recommend that you play along too. I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with over at the EBTKS Blog.

By the way... in case any of you are wondering... I actually never really get the chance to paint my own nails. If I do, I usually get french manicures. All of the colors used today were courtesy of my little sister. So I just wanted to say "thanks" to her, for allowing me to to go through her stash and use up some of her polish with my various attempts at this challenge. :)

OWH Memorial Day Bloghop

HeLLo Everyone! Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you! :)

Today I am participating in the 2010 OWH Memorial Day Weekend Bloghop. So for those of you that are new to my blog, I would just like to say "Welcome!"..... Hope you are able to find some inspiration here and enjoy this post. I'll try not to write too much, since I know many of you have various other blogs to visit today as well.....

My first card for today was made using the Star Cascade stamp from DeNami Design. I figured it was appropriate for my card, since it was simply based off of the American flag. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.   

My next card was meant to go along with the "Miss You" theme of today's bloghop. I figured the message of "Thinking of You", along with a bare and lonely tree, would represent the fact that the receiver of this card is being missed. Hope you guys are able to interpret it in the same way. :)  

And finally... If you have some time, I would just like to share the following video with you that I found on the internet a while back. Some of you may have already seen this before, but for those who haven't, I think it is a great compilation of those families who are missing their loved ones, and the mix of emotions that they go through when their soldiers finally return home.

I definitely get a bit teary-eyed when I see this video. But I feel it is appropriate for Memorial Day, and it can help us all to be appreciative and grateful for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to our country.

Embellish Butterflies Color Challenge Entry #2

 

Hey guys!....

I'm back again to share another one of the cards that I made for the Embellish Butterflies Color Challenge. This time I used the Fancy Butterfly image from DeNami Design, only I trimmed off the swirls from the tips of the wings, in order to give them a "different" look. I also dry embossed the background kraft cardstock with the "Leafy Branch" embossing folder. However, I noticed after I took the pictures, that it might be a little hard for you to see the embossing. I'm not sure why it came out so light.

Once I stamped and cut-out the butterflies, I simply adhered them on with glue-dots. I didn't want them to stick down entirely, because I wanted the wings to be able be propped up, for the look of dimension.

Well, that's all for now. I'm actually really exhausted tonight. So my goal is to make it to bed at a "decent" hour, for ounce. Haha... I say this because I have a horrible habit of staying up late. I don't know why, but at night I always seem to get a sudden burst of energy and i'm never tired. But I know that's not good for me, and sleep is very important. So let's hope that I can get myself on a more "normal" routine when it comes to my sleeping habits.

Embellish Butterflies Color Challenge Entry #1

Good Morning & Happy Thursday Everyone!....

Today I wanted to share one of the cards that I made for the Embellish Butterflies Color Challenge. Yes, that's correct, I ended up making more than one. It wasn't hard to do, because I happened to really like this color combo and I just love butterlies too! 

For this particular card I used the butterfly die from Papertry Ink to cut the shapes out of the kraft cardstock. The actual butterflies are stamped on to the different shades of green cardstock, and they are each matted on to the base of the card. Whereas the kraft cardstock is popped up with dimensionals. I tried to show that in the second picture, however i'm not sure if you are able to tell or not just by looking at the photo.

Well, Friday is JUST around the corner! Then it's on to a nice 3-day weekend for Memorial Day! Yay! Does anybody have any exciting plans? As I've stated before, i'm really looking forward to having that extra day off from work. I don't exactly know what I'll do yet, but i'm sure I'll find something. :-)

More "Lawn Fawn" & "Practicing Creativity" Cards

Good Morning Friends!.... Just wanted to share a couple more cards with you all today. If you got a chance to read my previous posts from this week, you might recall that I mentioned how I was able to do quite a bit of stamping over this past weekend. I was pretty excited, because that doesn't usually happen very often.

So, my first card was made up for the Around the World Challenge #4 over at the Clips-n-Cuts blog. I have been dying to participate in one of Vicky's challenges for a while now! However, the weeks just fly by too quickly and somehow I always seem to miss the deadlines. =( So i'm really excited that I was able to join in this time!

Here is the inspiration photo for the challenge:

I incorporated the telephones from Lawn Fawn's "Just My Type", in order to imitate the red phone booth in the photo of London. I also made sure to use the colors of kraft, red, and light blue. Here's a closer look:

This next card below, was actually made up for two seperate challenges. The color combination and general design is based off the image for the Jazzy Paper Designs Inspiration Challenge #8. Here is the inspiration image below:

 

I also added the yellow kites for the Wee Memories' Sky's the Limit Challenge #7, which required us to design a card featuring anything that goes up in the sky, such as these kites and rays from the "You're Dandy" set by Practicing Creativity. And here is my card......

Let's just say that I am reallyyy looking forward to the 3-day weekend that is coming up soon! One Layer "Lawn Fawn" Cards

Hiiii Everyone!....

Sooo.... I finally decided to break out some of my Lawn Fawn stamps that I have been meaning to use for a while now. But I just haven't gotten the chance, up until now!... So, today I have a few different cards to share with you all, and they are each submissions for various challenges that are currently going on this week. Hope you like them!

For the card above, I used the adorable little "thumb-tack" image from "Just My Type" and the sentiment is from "Just My Type, Too". I stamped the image randomly across the card base, and then colored them in with Copic markers. Super Simple! =).... I did the same for the card below, only I used the "scissors" image, and then I used a ruler and a black marker, in order to outline the card with a border.

Both cards above, along with the one below, are submissions to the CWC004- One Layer Card Challenge. 

While I was creating the card above, I also made sure to stay within the requirements of two other challenges as well. The color combination and theme (shower & umbrellas) is from the Off the Wall Craftiness Challenge #8. I stamped the "umbrella" image once in the middle, and then covered it with a mask, before I stamped the other two yellow umbrellas on the side. And did you notice my border??..... I wanted it to look like "faux stitching" for the One Layer Wednesday #5- Faux Embellishment Challenge. Therefore, I simply used the smaller rain drops in the "Partly Cloudy" set from Lawn Fawn, and stamped around the card base several times in order to acheive the look of "faux stiching". Pretty cool, huh? =) ... Here's another view from the front:

Finally, this last card below, was made up for Dawn's Color Cue Challenge #4. Unlike the others, this last card is not a single layer card. It may be difficult to see, but I used dimensionals in order to pop up the umbrellas. The color scheme for this particular challenge was: white, navy, light yellow, and light blue. Thus I stamped the umbrellas and rain-drop images, from "Partly Cloudy" in those required colors, as you can see below.

For the most part, I kept each of these cards pretty simple. I don't usually make very many single-layer cards, because I tend to gravitate more towards lots of layers and dimension. And ohh, how I love those embellishments too! :) However, I am happy that I made a few cards that are not my "usual" style. It helps me to be more versatile and try new things, which I like!

I definitely had lots of fun using my Lawn Fawn stamps. I have been admiring so many pretty creations with these images for the past couple of months, and I have been dying to finally break them out from my supply collection. I hate when I buy sets and don't get a chance to use them. Thankfully, that is no longer the case with these stamps!

This particular image is actually one of my personal favorites from Repeat Impressions. I have been looking forward to using it ever since I first found out that it was going to be featured as a Stamp of the Week. For this card, I chose to paper-piece the tulips and the vase, and also color them in with different colors using my Copics. I was pretty pleased with the final result. Hopefully you all enjoy it as well.

Well, I am happy to report that I had a very relaxing weekend and I actually did quite a bit of stamping during these past couple of days. So I will be sharing lots of new stuff on my blog this week. I hope you all will come back to visit often! =)

Pink Manhattan Floral Card

 

Hi guys!.... I'm back again with just another quick post today, with a card that I made for the Wee Memories Challenge #6. The requirements for this particular challenge were to use the color pink and also to utilize embellishments. So for this card, I made the background out of pink cardstock and stamped it with "Old French Writing" from Hero Arts with Versamark ink. And for the embellishments, I added a few pretty rhinestones on the corners. Quick & Simple! =)

You may remember this exact sketch from one of my previous cards from this post, HERE. I used the same exact layout, but just switched around the colors and enhanced the background a bit more. I actually think I like this new one much better! =) Do any of you guys ever go back and attempt to re-do any of your cards??... I don't usually do it, but I do "think" about it a lot. Many times, I look back at some of my old work and think to myself: "What was I thinking??"... Haha!... I guess our styles and tastes are constantly changing throughout the years. So the things we used to love, aren't always the same things we like now. LoL... well, at least that's how I feel. Let me know if any of you guys ever feel the same way too!

Embellish Dimension Color Challenge

Ok, well i'm a little late with this.... But "better late, than never", right??..... haha ;-)

This is just a quick post with my submissions for the previous Embellish Dimension Color Challenge. By the time you read this, it will already be past the deadline for this particular challenge. I just barely made the cut-off time for their deadline. It was very close, but thankfully I was still able to submit and participate in this fabulous challenge. The colors that we were required to use were: sea foam, brown, green, and terracotta. Along with this color combination, we were also required to incorporate dimension within our projects as well. 

For my first card, I chose to use one of my favorite punches from EK Success. The punch cuts out two hearts at the same time. One is the outline with the center missing, and the other is the middle part of the first one; so it's a tiny little heart. I love it! Here's what I made......

Then.... as I was cleaning up my scraps from my first card, I decided to salvage the negative pieces from the heart punches, and I ended up using them to make this card below.....

I also used a Scor-pal in order to make the score lines on the strips of cardstock and around the base of the entire card. Then I applied glitter by laying down a few strips of red-line tape across the colored cardstock.

Pretty Cool, huh?..... I was able to make TWO cards with ONE single punch! I need to do things like this more often. I love when I am able to use up my scraps, instead of throwing them away. =)

"Girls Night Out"- DeNami Sketch Challenge #2

Hi Blog Buddies!

Today i'm sharing a card that I made up for the DeNami Design Sketch Challenge #2. This was a super fun sketch, made up by my fellow DT member, Wendy. I used theTropical Drinks stamp set and colored each of the cocktails in with my Copic markers. Then I cut each of the drinks out and used demensionals to pop them up from the card. I added some Gamma Green Glitter for more sparkle and ruffled up some Lime Grosgrain Ribbon and added it next to the sentiment. Super fun and super simple! =)
